There are an abundance of attractive gift baskets on the market. We find them in supermarkets, drug stores and even fine retail outlets. Often, the basket will come with a hefty price tag as well. If you want to give a friend or relative a nice gift basket, but have limited funds, don’t give up hope yet. Chances are you can put together a basket of gifts that will impress your friend and still be within your budget. Here are some tips on how to put together the ideal gift basket.
The first thing you will need is a basket that is the right size for your project. Check at second hand shops for something that will work. Often you can pick up a basket that is in great shape for very little money. Check to make sure the weave is still very secure and also notice if there are any spots that may need to be cleaned. If there is a handle, make sure it is very secure. Once you have the basket, you will need some sort of filler to line the bottom. If you have a home shredder, simply use some of the shreds. Use spray paint or food coloring to add a dash of color to the shredding. An alternative would be to use a small pillow in the bottom of the basket. Remember you are creating the foundation that should call attention to the gifts you are putting into the basket, so don’t spend too much time on the filler. When it comes to the gifts to include, let your knowledge of your friend’s interests be your guide. Don’t think they have to carry a large price tag to be appreciated. For example, a basket filled with bathing gels, foams, sponges, soaps and bubble bath can be put together from items from your local dollar store. Does your friend enjoy snacks with television? Fill the basket with licorice strips, small bags of peanuts, malted milk balls, candy bars and a few different kinds of chips. Again, you can get all these items at your local dollar store. Whether it is grooming aids, audio products, kitchen accessories or even computer supplies, chances are you can get plenty of items for your basket at very reasonable prices. The final step will be assembling the items in the gift basket. Choose which side is to be the front and arrange all the items so that everything is facing in the same direction. You want the fit to be as snug as possible, so items do not shift in transition. Once everything is arrange to your liking, use clear gift wrap to encase the basket. If you do not have clear gift wrap around the house, then use the clear plastic wrap from the kitchen. Tie off the wrap at the top with ribbon and do any trimming you think needs to be done. Gift baskets are always a nice way to tell someone how much you appreciate his or her presence in your life. With a little planning, you can have a gift basket that will delight your friend, and still be well within your budget. |
