As low cost air carriers flood the market and deregulation in the industry has run rampant, there is nary a seat to be had that isn’t cheap in the skies lately! It seems that as the costs of a flight on a Northwest or Jetblue have sort of leveled off; the prices in first class on an American 747 have plummeted. Right now the really rich anyway all fly their own planes anyway. Does anyone remember Don McLean? American Pie? “Long, long time ago?” No one cares to learn from their missteps. But don’t worry one day when some flagrant famous person crashes into a mountain as their little Cessna spins out of control, don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Besides there are real flights, right now that are very affordable and ready to roll out for you today! Whether you’re flying international or domestic there are cheap flights to be found on the internet and from travel agents who are desperate for the business since the bottom dropped out a few years ago and everyone started trusting the online world. If you’re more comfortable going to the airline directly, it’s that little bit of added insurance (and you can pick your seat, which, some of the travel sites are a little retarded about) Cheap air flights can be found direct from the websites of the airlines and that’s often the most cost effective way to go. Many carriers like JetBlue and Virgin have turned the screws on these websites and they offer better rates if you buy direct from them; so shop around! You want to be sure you get the cheapest deal on your flight. One of the other wildly swinging variables about booking your flights is the time in which you do it. Often times you can score some great last minute deals; others you’ll pay multiple times the cost the nearer you get. With some sites, you can get quoted one price and you go back the same day and it’s swung around to such a degree that you’re not even sure if it’s worth it. By and large the rule is the sooner you buy your tickets (3-5 weeks out) the better. Many places have something like a 72 hour cancellation policy, but make sure you get it spelled out before you lay down any green backs; you don’t want to get pushed out of the loop by just assuming something that’s not true. |
