Health insurance rocks all our worlds; with these exorbitant premiums and no end of out of pocket cost in sight, the continued privatization of health insurance remains a problem in an unhealthy country such as the United States. With the sick and the poor always getting helped by the federal government, they’ve seen what the quickest way for cheap medical assistance is; inertia. Unfortunately for the rest of us, there is the problem of where to get cheap health insurance? It’s a riddle with no easy answers, but there are outlets out there and available for the individual who is interested in getting taken care of.
Where are we in this world where we can’t offer something like basic cheap health insurance to the citizens of this country? It seems that if this is something we’re all paying into anyway, we shouldn’t really make essential things like health care a private industry. We all need protection from terrorists, don’t we? So we’ve got the CIA, FBI, and armed forces to take care of us on the front lines. We all need protection from fire, don’t we? That’s why fire departments are a thing that is paid for through tax dollars. We all need a basic education, right? So school teachers are government employees. Yet it puzzles the heck out of me why there is this continued privatization of something as essential as medical care! Finding and retaining cheap dental insurance is another thing I’ve got a big grudge about. Why is it that the most expensive procedures are fully privatized? Things that so many of our children “need” like braces and just general oral care for their teeth and gums should be something that we all pay for and we’re all able to use. Also, when we get a cavity, we’ll make any excuse not to go to the dentist just for him to say, “Floss more.” It’s only after weeks and weeks of painfully infestation when we need the likes of a crown or filling; major league dental stuff, that we actually get things taken care of. There’s also an undercurrent here that people don’t talk about as much. I’m a young professional, yet my current job does not offer me health insurance. Not a big deal. But the reason my wife and I haven’t had children yet (on top of many other personal medical bills) is because she just left her job where she had coverage, I have no coverage, so having a child would set us back thousands and thousands of dollars to start; not to mention the fact that she wouldn’t get the necessary ongoing care during the pregnancy that she’d definitely need. So what is a young couple to do? Cheap health insurance isn’t really an option as all the health insurance that’s out there, controlled by private interests, and just keeps going up in price. |
